May 01, 2014. Conference "Development of entrepreneurship in Azerbaijan"

01.05.2014. Bakı – “Development of Entrepreneurship in Azerbaijan” conference was held today at the Hilton hotel. 

The main topic of the conference was a discussion of suggestions and recommendations on improving the business climate of Azerbaijan in eight directions. Among these directions are electronic registration of business entities, construction permits, connection to the electricity grid, state registration of property rights, the provision of loans, corporate governance, and import-export operations. During the conference suggestions and recommendations of the stakeholders (government agencies, international organizations, local experts) to reduce the number of steps, time and money businessmen spent on these procedures were being discussed. All the suggestions and recommendations were prepared according to the Decree of President of Azerbaijan Republic dated May 3, 2014, on additional measures to develop entrepreneurship. The implementation of these activities can lead to the development of the business environment in the country, and raise Azerbaijan’s rating in relevant international assessments (primarily the World Bank's " Doing Business).

Charge d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan Dereck Hogan welcomed the delegates and noted that "We are pleased to see President’s decrees aimed at supporting economic reforms. We applaud efforts of Azerbaijan to comply with development conception "Azerbaijan 2020: future vision and aims to diversify the economy of the country".

The alliance of six Azerbaijani public unions engaged at the “Micro-Enterprise Support Project” funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) presented special suggestions package at the conference. The alliance consists of Entrepreneurship Development Foundation, Economic Research Center, Center for Economic Initiatives, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Center, World Carpet Association, Bridge to the Future Youth Organization. The suggestions package will be presented to the Government of Azerbaijan in the near future.

Representatives of state agencies, public unions, international organizations, embassies, and different think tanks participated in this event organized with the support of USAID.
